At the first hint of Spring, we long to ditch the boots and step out into the lighter, brighter season with confidence. Podiatrist Molly Chilvers BSc(Hons), MSc | MRCPod the brand ambassador for Footmender®All in One shares her highlights – 5 x easy ways to up your skincare game – right now – to make sure you’re feet not only look, but feel, at their very best.

  1. Footcare needs to be all year round!

“Out of sight, out of mind” is often the mantra for our footcare regimes (or lack of it!). In fact, the colder months can actually be the most challenging time for our feet. Heavier, sturdier footwear that keep feet warm and dry can lead to problems like chaffing and rubbing, build-up of hard skin and reduction in the skin’s elasticity which can cause painful, cracked heels and deeper fissures. Also, the relative fall in humidity, both indoors and outdoors, combined with the colder, harsher weather can strip skin of its natural moisture and exacerbate dryness. In addition, in colder climes, our immediate urge to hydrate is often reduced – and we can easily become dehydrated. This can have a negative impact on the tone and suppleness of the skin all over our body – including the feet! Caring for our feet is as important as looking after and pampering any other part of our body and so we need to start investing in care for our feet.

  1. Keep it simple

Avoid the temptation to purchase every tool and treatment in the quest to prep your feet before Spring arrives!  Manual and electric foot files can be harsh on the skin – and are often left lying around in bathroom cabinets accumulating bacteria – and exfoliating socks can be quite drying. Instead, choose an easy, multi-functional product that you can use at home all year round which not only softens skin, but also tackles the most common problems like dry skin, cracked heels, calluses and corns. Footmender® All in Onehas eight different modes of action which work to:

    1. Prevent the regrowth of microorganisms for at least 12 hours
    2. Remove dead skin cells via exfoliating action
    3. Bind and retains moisture in the skin
    4. Soften the skin
    5. Reduce skin sensitivity and slow the release of water
    6. Stabilise skin cell renewal
    7. Stimulate the healing of cracked skin
    8. Strengthen the skin’s barrier effect
  1. Not all creams are equal

Even if you’re using a regular body lotion daily (and remembering to go all the way to your feet!) it isn’t enough to keep foot problems at bay. You need to use a specifically formulated foot cream like Footmender® All in One Sweden’s No 1* foot cream, which uses an innovative, patented formula with six active ingredients that work in synergy and is proven effective to treat and heal four common problems with one single product. This fast and effective treatment can be used once a day for a short period of time (this usually means one week of treatment), to repair and heal your skin and negates the need to overload your beauty product “stash” (it replaces the need for foot baths, manual or electric foot files and exfoliating socks). This streamlined approach to footcare will also save you ££, as you don’t have to buy multiple products!

  1. Your at-home “pedicure in a bottle”

Footcare needs to be regular, not necessarily time consuming or costly. By including it into your self-care routine, you won’t feel the need for that last minute, pre-holiday pedicure and can avoid unnecessary visits to the podiatrist**. A medical device class IIa product like Footmender® All in One can be used at home safely so that you can tackle problems and prevent them from reoccurring, all year round. You only need one daily treatment – I recommend that you treat your entire foot even if you feel that you only have problems in specific areas e.g. cracked heels or hard skin (calluses). Often, people have several different problems simultaneously and almost always in combination with dry feet. Rub in two pumps of cream for at least one minute on each foot, allow the cream to absorb first, and then, if you wish, you can put on socks after treatment (ideally chose socks made of breathable, natural fabric like bamboo or cotton). Generally, you will notice a difference after just one use. Once your feet are restored, use as a “maintenance” product twice weekly to maintain the good results. Without maintenance therapy there is a risk that the problems will gradually return.

  1. Don’t hide away. Let your feet shine!

As a podiatrist, in 2026, I’d love to see people become more confident about their feet. Too often people are self-conscious about the shape or structure of their feet or embarrassed about the condition of their skin – especially around the heels. But with a regular footcare regime, people can be confident in the health of their feet. Our feet are incredible, literally keeping us grounded & moving through life– so walk barefoot on the beach, take your socks off at yoga and wear the sandals!  As a final prep, use clean nail scissors to keep the nails trimmed, leaving a small white free edge and add some polish for special occasions only (it’s important to take regular breaks to let nails “breathe” naturally) – there are some great natural options available now which are breathable and non-toxic, for example Dr. Remedy.
